Want to have fun and help raise awareness of the budget peril the California State Park system faces? Get out and spend some time at a California State Park this Father’s Day Weekend. Book a picnic table for the whole family at your favorite park on Saturday June 20, or take a spontaneous trip to a new-to-you beach on Sunday the 21st.
The California State Parks Foundation is holding SOS: that is, Save Our State parks the weekend of June 20-21. Participation is a snap. Take a digital photo of yourself at the park with a sign or a green ribbon, then post it online according to the Foundation’s directions. Just visiting a park, paying the parking fee and enjoying its beauty and bounty sends a message to our esteemed lawmakers.
It would take too long to list my favorite parks—even the ones in and around the Silicon Valley. You might find me hiking in Big Basin on Saturday or lounging on the beach in Natural Bridges on Sunday.
